I am a loyal fan of the Today show and I enjoyed your “America the Beautiful” segment focusing on Charleston, SC. However, I was somewhat disappointed by the incorrect historical data referenced by your narrator. Confederate forces fired on Fort Sumter on April 12, 1861, NOT 1860. The Civil War is an extremely important part of our American heritage and I feel that any references made regarding the war must be 100% accurate for educational purposes. My family and I visit Charleston every year and we agree that it is one of the most beautiful places in America.
P.S. I live only 2 hours from Niagara Falls. Another great choice, good job Today!

I watched The Today Show this morning as I always do while getting ready for work and there were 4 stories about Iraq, mostly about bad things or sad things. For a change it wasn’t the lead story. I am really surprised that there was no mention of the good thing that happened, the capture of the top Iraqi leader of Al Queda in Iraq and the connection between him and Al Queda and Bin laden. And the overall connection of the foreign fighters / terrorists and these two groups.
You had alot of coverage of the Democrats pulling the “all nighter” protesting the war, but didn’t state the fact that alot of them left.
I wonder why you never mention anything good that happens there or any of the progress that has happened since the surge has started.

Good Morning !
I would like to direct my comments to the “Management” of the “Today Show, Hosted by Matt, Meredith,Ann and Al.
I am very upset in the way formats of the “News Media And Morning Talk Show’s direct their host to conduct themselve’s. I am not pointing my finger to just the “Today Show” but I usually watch Matt and his group in the morning. All the “News Ppr’s, T.V.News and Talk Shows act pretty much in the same mammer, just different face’s and personalities.
Without going into great detail as my comments are broad and cover a lot of differant topic’s but…. they all relate to the same thing.
Example: Matt, Meredith, Ann and etc. all conduct (And Most Other Host/Journalists) their interviews in the same manner. When they interview a person, they try to come off as being (try is the operative word) both in tone and facial expression so sincere, caring and concerned. But all the concern, caring, sympathy and etc. are but gone in a instant as they change topic’s. They change face’s and personalities in a flash.
Now if this is not enough, when interviewing a person they put words in peoples mouths when asking a question. The person being interviewed gives a statement and the nevt thing coming out of the mouth of the host is, “don’t you think or mean it was this way or it really ment this ! Well why bother asking a person their opinion if the host are directed to change the interviewed person’s statement . Just for the sake of creating more hip, excitement, interest or higher rating’s.
These so called “HOST” are supposed to be “JOURNALIST”. It has been my understandering the definition of a journalist is to report a event as it happended and not change the event to your liking just to spice it up so it becomes news worthy to make rating’s or sell nwespaper’s.
Another item that really rasied my blood pressure was the one reported by Meredith Vieira this morning (07/19/07) on the town with the Catholic Cemetery and new Catholic Church . Meredith in her interview insinuated that the church near a neu university may try to sway new businesses coming to the area to follow the guidelines or wishes of the catholic church.
She further went on to cite a example of a pharmacy coming into the area and that because of the churches view or doctrine concerning abortion it may not allow the pharmacy in if it sells contraceptives and also citing statements by the “ACLU’
While the abortion issue may be a hot tooic with many religion’s and vote getting politicians I would like to state my opoiion in this matter.
1) The journalist are to report the news only, not take sides as they so often due.
2) This is “America”, we are, at least for the time being, a “Free Society”, Of The People, By The People And For The People.
3) This nation is supposed to have a “Seperation of Church and State” and while everone has a opinion on the abortion issue, no one person, organization or government has the right to tell any one person or nation as a whole what to do on this issue.
The decision “For or Against ” abortion should be on an individual’s own choice, no one has the right to tell anothe person what to do.
On a personal note Meredith and if I hurt your feeling’s “I am Sorry”. You have a personal trait I find irritating. If you look at yourself while standing outside this morning (07/19/07) or even while on the set, when you are with a group of people, you alway’s tend to get in a person’s face. You get very close to another person’s face and just stare. The other annoying thing is; when standing with one or more people (besides the staring) you are unable to stand still. You mone from side to side, back and forth and at the same time, stomp your feet on the ground, one at a time, up and down. I feel the is very pooy “body english”. In my opinion, it denotes you have very little self control of you body movement or are a very nervious person. Get a hold of yourself, please !
4) And lastly I feel our government, our representative’s, from the Federal level all the way down to the city level’s have let us down as a nation and as a people.
A few example’s; President Bush pardoned Libby after our court system and trail by a jury found him guilty. In my opinion this president and other’s have abused this so called excutive privilege.
The attorney generals office who is prosecuting our two border patrol guards for doing their jobs for trying to stop a known drug cartel from crossing our borders, this is such a mockery of justices.
We let anyone who screams the loudest into our county and the american people are paying the bill and losing our rights in the process.
Also what is happening to our national language “English”, immigrants are supposed to learn, read and speak “English”, We are not supposed to change our language to suite the people coming into this county.
We are supposed to be a “God Fearing Nation”, so say our Counstitution, Delaration of Independants, its printed on our currency and yet…..we are lot allowed to “Pledge Allegiance To Our Flag” using the words “UNDER GOD”, our foundiing fathers musted turning over in their graves.
We are supposed to be a “Nation of One” and not be influenced by race or creed, if this is so, why do we have organizations and schools promoting color. We as a nation are to see and represent people not color or race.
I fear our nation is crumbling from within and like the “Roman Empire” we will cease to exist. I pity those who were born here in America and do not vote or contribute to this great county. You do not know or have the slightest idea of what you will be losing. Forget the Paris Hilton’s and young starlets they do not live in the real world.
The new american’s coming from oppressed natiion’s know of what I speak for they lost or did not have what you take for granted. However, there will not be a loud enough voice for them to be heard and they to will be lost within the many like a drop of water in the ocean.
God Bless our once Great Nation but I feel not even God can help us anymore.
Thank you for letting me share my opinion, only in “American” !

Thank you for coming to Charleston South Carolina and for voting it the 9th Best Place to Live in the US. I am from Charleston and I am thankful every day that I live in such a wonderful and beautiful place. Every year on my birthday my husband and I go to the Penisula of Charleston and play tourist. I always find something new and interesting and beautiful to see. We are so fortunate to be able to go out in the many waterways and see the sights along our coast line. Every weekend that we are out in the boat feels like a vacation. I am a Real Estate agent in the tri-county area and I love to show clients from out of state my wonderful home. Thanks again for sharing some of my world with the rest of the country. I watch your program every morning and I have for many years. (I was a little worried when Katie left, but it’s still #1 for me)

The story that I saw on the today show really struck a nerve with me. I really took offence to the “death of Oprah’s” being such a big ordeal. I lost my oldest son due to an asthma attack april 22, 2006, did that make headline news? NO. I feel that story was a slap in the face to the parents that has lost a child. You can replace a dog, but you can’t replace a child.

It amazes me how you want to start a race riot between Latino’s and Blacks, I’m referring to the police shooting in Riverside. I guess you people can’t relax unless your causing trouble, maybe if you spent time covering Iraq correctly the killing of innocent Iraqi by this country your nothing but a bunch of cowards like most of the media.

To: Ann Curry, I begin each day with the Today Show. I enjoy all of it and have never been disappointed. You are a lovely lady and so very talented. I hope you will take these comments as suggestions - not as criticism. The outfit you wore today (July 20) was not complimentory to
your appearance. It reminded me of pictures of my great grandmother
when she was pregnant. The out fit made you appear pregnant and had gained at least 20 pounds. When you sat down, it ballooned in front and puffed up in the back - size of a basketball. You have been wearing some unusual outfits lately - most very nice - but some look as though you are trying to revert to your teenage years. You are too pretty to be covering up with this type of apparel! I hope you take this as constructive critism and hope it does not hurt your feelings. Keep up the good work !!!!!

The Charleston coverage by the Today Show was a nice tourism piece, however, where was the historical references to the contributions of African Americans to the “holy city”? As someone born and raised in Charleston, and having never heard about these contributions when I was growing up, I expect in 2007 to not have the historic contributions swept under the rug and the only reference made to African American ladies making sweet baskets. I suggest that you expand your coverage and do a more thorough job about presenting the true flavor of Charleston, to include the African American influence, and by interviewing as well as speaking with, a more diverse representation of the Charleston community.

As an avid dog lover and a dog owner myself, I can understand the loss of a dog. However, it amazes me how Oprah losing her dog can take precedence over a parent losing a child. Many children are lost everyday in this world, especially lately overseas. Do we see articles on these lost children? Do we see their picture displayed for all the world to see and their parents to say, “hey that is my child”. Nope. But let a celebrity lose a pet and I bet it will be displayed all over the USA. What a great world we live in.

This is for Meridith. The water tasting segment was funny and interesting. I am so glad that more and more people are realizing that city water is good. We grew up with fluoridated water to protect our teeth…and it helped. I keep a medium size water bottle with me all the time and it is filled with tap water. I can’t see all this plastic going into our land fills. It has to stop sometime! Also, I used to travel to Providence to visit my ex-husband’s family. The water there was very soft and tasted wonderful. Just wanted you to know. Tell Matt that I am looking forward to the Oxygen tasting!

No one has said that the loss of a pet supersedes the loss of a human. The segment dealing with Oprah’s loss of a dog merely pointed out the devastation of loss, in general. To some people, the loss of a pet is a serious loss. There are those who live alone, those who are elderly and dependent on their companion animals, and those who have nowhere else to turn for non-judgmental and unconditional love, to mention only a few, who find the loss of a pet completely devastating. The segment merely used Oprah as an example to point out these facts. Of course, the loss of a human, especially a child, is a horrendous experience, and the Today Show never denied that.

I just visited Galena, Illinois and fell in love with that small town. I hope it will be featured on the “Best places to live” segment we often see on TV programs. The town is built on the side of a bluff on the Galena River and is full of history. It is a must see.
