Dear Today Show,
I know this story was on last week but I have been pondering this since.
Light Bulbs! I am amazed when I see all the press about the new florescent bulbs because of the hazardous waste problem 1,000,000 bulbs would have on the envirnment because of their mercury content. When I lived in California, there were lakes and reservoirs that were closed due to mercury contamination. People / consumers are unaware of the mercury in the bulbs so they will just toss them into the trash. (Even when they know they still toss - look at batteries!) Yet none of the news reports I have seen, and only one (on NPR) I have heard, discuss the disposal problem. I had hoped TODAY would at least note the issue.
Maybe all those Waltons on the billionaires list don’t want Walmart to loose sales when the posibility of mercury poisoning hits the public awareness. In fairness, the NPR story mentioned that Walmart is ‘looking at used bulb collection”.
